The London Warriors have been officially named as the eighth and final franchise in the newly formed American Football League Europe (AFLE), completing the competition’s lineup ahead of its inaugural 2026 season.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for both the club and British American football, as one of the UK’s most decorated teams prepares to transition from domestic dominance to the European professional stage.
From Domestic Dominance to Continental Ambition
Founded in 2005, the Warriors quickly rose through the ranks of British American football, driven by a strong emphasis on youth development and internal progression. Their success was immediate: they secured the Division 2 national title in their debut adult season in 2008, followed by the Division 1 championship just a year later.
Over the next decade and beyond, the club became a consistent powerhouse. Between 2011 and 2025, the Warriors reached BritBowl — the national championship game — 12 times, winning seven titles and establishing themselves as one of the most successful programmes in the country’s history.
A Proven Talent Pipeline
Beyond their on-field success, the Warriors have earned a reputation as one of the UK’s leading development programmes. The club has produced numerous players who have gone on to represent Great Britain, secure scholarships to US colleges, and compete at elite levels internationally.
Notably, former Warriors players have broken into the NFL, including defensive lineman Efe Obada and tight end Seydou Traore, who was selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The club’s influence extends into coaching as well. Former Warriors coach Aden Durde made history as the first British defensive coordinator to win a Super Bowl, underlining the programme’s broader impact on the global game.
Building for the Professional Era
While the AFLE announcement is recent, preparations within the Warriors organisation have been underway for months. Since late 2025, the club has been assembling its roster, staffing structure, and operational framework in readiness for the step up to professional competition.
Leading the transition is General Manager Marvin Allen, a former Warriors player and ex-NFL wide receiver. Allen now takes on a key leadership role as the franchise enters a new era.
“It is a great honour to take on the role of President and General Manager for this franchise,” Allen said. “London has a strong football community and a growing base of talented athletes. Our goal is to build a professional and competitive organisation that reflects the ambition of the sport in the UK.
“I am proud to be part of this next step and look forward to contributing to the continued development of American football in Europe,” he added.
A New Chapter for the Sport
The London Warriors will compete against seven other franchises from Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Poland, and Switzerland in the AFLE’s inaugural campaign. All teams will be aiming for a place in the league’s championship game, the Gold Bowl, scheduled for 6th September 2026.
Their inclusion signals a major moment for British American football, as a domestic success story prepares to represent the UK on a continental platform.
With a legacy built on winning and development, the Warriors now face their biggest challenge yet — proving they can translate national dominance into European success.
