In the lead-up to the British University & College Sports American football season, we are seeing a number of teams changing their logos. The Exeter Demons, Oxford Brookes Panthers, Derby Braves, Sussex Saxons, Surrey Stingers, and Canterbury Chargers will all have fresh looks.
First up we see the reigning Division One champions the Exeter Demons, with the least noticeable change. The only tweak is that the shade of green has changed to align more with their university colours.
The Demons have said keeping the old logo but adding the new colour “pays tribute to the Demons that came before while embracing the success to come in the future.”
The new logo will make its first showing in the Premiership South clash in the Week 4 game vs. SGS Pride.
The next club to change is the Sussex Saxons as they opt for a more sleek, aggressive-looking design. The old knight stabbing a football logo makes way for an updated knight with a flowing red cape.
The new design comes after the Saxons had a successful season in Division 2 with a playoff appearance before losing to the Imperial Immortals in the Quarter Finals.
The third logo isn’t a new change but one we at Inside Britball hadn’t noticed before it was pointed out to us. We used the old Oxford Brookes University Panther logo in our original structure post but this year's committee contacted us and shared why they’ve changed.
The “pink panther” has made way for a generic football-type logo with the OBU text inside. They have also dropped the Panthers monocle as they want to align more with other teams in the university.
The Derby Braves are the next club with an updated look. They have gone away from their old logo of a capital B with a Native American headdress for the 2024-25 season to a simplified logo. They have opted for to go with the word “Braves” in a classic American college-style font in their iconic colours of blue, orange and white.
Team president, Callum Oliver, said “Our updated logo is a fresh face on a familiar system with the same family and same competitive atmosphere embedded.”
Another logo change ready for the 2024/25 season, is the Canterbury Chargers who have changed their logo to align with their new partnership with the Adult Divison One side, the East Kent Mavericks.
The change sees the logo take the look of the formally mentioned Mavs as the horse from the middle of the original logo flips to face right but it maintains the traditional colours of the Chargers.
Both the Chargers and the Mavericks have said this merger has taken a lot of hard work behind the scenes but both clubs will benefit from merging the coaching expertise, equipment, and operational experiences that they possess.
Finally, the most recently released design is from the Surrey Stingers. The Division 2 South team unveiled a “simplified version” of the logo which had an added “splash of colour” for the upcoming season.
Team president James Bigger had this to say “We just felt our previous logo was a little bit too detailed. We wanted a more modern and aggressive look and some colour for a new period in our team's history.”
The new logo is not a drastic change from the previous one, however, it does adopt the team's colours of blue, white and yellow rather than just a black and white logo. The “stinger” itself has become simpler with some detail taken away, but there are still identifiable features from previous seasons.
We’re sure you’ll see these logos as teams begin their preseason push, head into the first weekend of fixtures and across all social media platforms going forward. We’ll update our graphics, website, and content and hope you’ll quickly adjust and associate the new logos with the teams going forward.
